Out of Time

A solo dance-theatre show about the Irish step-dance tradition directed by Sinéad and performed by acclaimed dancer Colin Dunne.

Throughout 2008/2009 Out of Time performed at:
Esplanade (Singapore)
The Pit, Barbican (London), Bite Festival
Project Arts Centre (Dublin), Dublin International Dance Festival
Teatro del Escorial (Madrid), Madrid International Dance Festival
Glór Theatre (Ennis, Ireland)

'An extraordinarily moving memoir in motion... It will delight and provoke in equal measure.' The Irish Independent

'Intimate, sincere and funny.' The Irish Times

'An intruigingly postmodern, chamber-sized exercise in career self-assessment. The release is palpable, empathy-inducing... fascinating.' The Times

'A warm-hearted, drolly eccentric deconstruction of the past... and of the art-form itself.' The Telegraph

One of The Telegraph’s top 10 shows to see in 2009.

Colin was nominated for a Dance Critics Circle Award (Best Male Dancer) for his performance in Out of Time at the Barbican Theatre, London in 2009.

Out of Time delves into the mayhem of Colin Dunne’s private world as a dancer rooted in the Irish step dance tradition. In his first solo show, Dunne takes a step back from the frenetic world of competitive and commercial Irish dance in which he was once a leading figure to reflect on the dance’s early form and its subsequent evolution. Intimate, personal and provocative, Out of Time looks to the past for simple beginnings as Dunne playfully renegotiates his relationship with a tradition that has shaped his life.

Featuring recorded music by Martin Hayes and Dennis Cahill, new music by Ian McDonnell, live sound manipulation by Fionán de Barra, lighting by Colin Grenfell and film footage from the RTE archives re-designed by Sean Westgate (creator of cutting-edge video software, ‘Hippotizer’), Out of Time takes a bold look at traditional dance in the twenty-first century.

2010 tour to Brest, Troyes, Châlons-en-Champagne, Compiègne (France), Umea (Sweden) and Birmingham (UK). For more details go to www.colindunne.com.
